Darrell A. Maddox, President of STA Laboratories, has expanded the services of STA Laboratories, Inc. to encompass seed quality services, molecular breeding services and plant health diagnostics. Under his leadership, STA Laboratories was recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in the Longmont/Boulder, Colorado area. Darrell has grown the company with a second testing facility in Gilroy, CA to better serve clients on a national basis.

Darrell joined the company in 1991 as Manager of Biochemical Services. In this role, he was instrumental in helping STA Laboratories become one of the leading independent diagnostic laboratories in the U.S., and the first to offer the seed and agriculture industries one-stop seed quality testing services.

Prior to working for STA, Darrell worked for the Asgrow Seed Co. in San Juan Bautista, CA, where he specialized in seed health testing and seed quality. He graduated from Colorado State University with a Master’s degree in Plant Pathology.

Darrell has been active throughout his 20-year career in seed industry associations and committees. His contributions include: Chair of the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) Seed-borne Disease Committee, National Seed Health System (NSHS) Technical Group and charter member of the organizing committee, International Seed Health Initiative (ISHI) Technical Coordination Group Chair, American Phytopathological Society (APS) Chair of the Seed Pathology Committee. Currently he serves as the Associate Member Board Representative to the California Seed Association (CSA) and ISHI Representative to the International Executive Committee of the ASTA.

In 2002, Darrell received the President’s Distinguished Service Award from the ATSA for his role in helping the industry charter the NSHS.
